The Review

In the past class, we used this process where the writer go over one paragraph at a time. Within the process the writer chooses a rand paragraph, re reads it and see if it connects to the thesis of the essay. Afterwards, the writer then reads the thesis of the paragraph to see if it connects to the thesis of the sway and relates to what the paragraph will be about. After reviewing this, the writer would continue on for the rest of their paragraphs. This work very well for me due to the fact that I had paragraphs with topic sentences that wouldn't relate to the thesis statement. So I would have do this process until every sentence in every paragraph expand and defend my thesis statement.

Student teacher conference

In my previous student teacher conference, I was able to go through some important aspects of my draft that needed to be reviewed. One main and only issue was my sentence/paragraph structure. Since middle school, I always had an issue with structuring my paragraphs. I had great ideas but i was never great at putting it down the best way possible. So entering this conference, I knew i would have to explain that my structure was off. Revealing this made me a little better due to the fact that I knew i could get better at it. There are many resources around me that could aid my ability to structure my paragraphs. This would also lead to the fact that I know what I want to write, so its not a major issue to dwell upon.

Using Outlines

Creating an outline for my essay was a bit of a challenge which has its benefits. The challenge about creating an outline was the background. Since I'm focusing on the issue of pressure among students, rather than the topic of school itself, I had had to be more specific on what I'm discussing on. In my background i focused on the usage of SATs for students to be admitted into the specific college they want. I wrote about how getting into college was a lot easier decades ago. The standards and criteria needed to be admitted into college was a lot lower than what it is in modern day society. The benefits in creating an outline would be that i have a complete visual of what my essay would look like. With transition sentences, I could easily finish a draft of my essay by justing using the detailed outline i created.

My topic for the current essay that we are writing about is on the idea that the pressure on the educational system upon students. Though my last essay was on the credibility on sources which defends the aforementioned. This essay will incorporate my analysis and position on this issue. I will add more onto my essay but i believe that the pressure upon students to succeed in school is a psychological issue. Stress is a psychological issue no matter what the issue may be. To put students on a spot where they must force themselves and go beyond their habits to get a certain grade is unfair. This pressure could and most likely would lead to low self esteem, and suicide. To conclude, pressure towards anything is very problematic.

The Pressure

School is a harsh environment for students who are placed into a position where they must overachieve.    Most students are under the pressure to become better than they could ever be. This is a stressful issue upon students mainly on the fact that students are under the stress of not failing and maintaining the standard average to continue to the next grade and so forth. Parents are known to be as the main source for all this pressure and stress due to the fact that they want the absolute best to come from their children. This is known from the idea where parents want the child to live a better life than they did, thus achieving high standards will get them there. This is an issue because the child would be placed under the rules and interest of the parents. The student would feel as if they were here just to fulfill the needs and dreams their parents weren't able to get. Pressure from school is also an issue based on the idea that the stress could affect the student mentally and physically.

Pressure

Pressure to be successful is a harsh thing to have while living because you are expected to reach a certain standard. This is a negative aspect as it could lead onto reliance on things like drugs and alcohol in order to cope with it. Being pressured to be successful goes for musicians, actors, athletes, and even students. The pressure upon achieving greatness could lead to a downfall if one is unaware of the consequences thats occurring. Everyone hopes to be successful, while others thinks its necessary to reach a certain criteria to please the masses. Rather than setting a goal of success, one relies on the response on people who could judge who's successful or not.

Steriods

Steroid is a major issue that is very visible in various sports today. When you're little, you always talk about wanting to be like your favorite athlete. This is because everyone loves them and they seem to have the perfect life, the athleticism, money, girls, and (hopefully) the titles. But it all goes down when they're on the television for the wrong reasons. It's not because they were traded, won, lost, or even retired, its because they used a performance enhancer. As a little kid, i never understood the purpose of performance enhancers. I thought it would be a good thing since these guys are abnormally huge compared to other people that i see everyday. As I grow up, i came to understand that they are abnormally huge for a reason, and its from steroids. It's a bit rare for basketball, but I was an avid professional wrestling fan, also known as World Wrestling Entertainment. This sport is about men that fight each other to gain a repeated title belt. Like football and baseball, this sport is very competitive and it was necessary to be cut and fit. After a while, it was obvious that many of the superstars were using steroids as the company went on to the news and press continuously in the 90s. After learning about the issue of this problem, I came to the conclusion that this wasn't the right way to succeed in the business. The use of steroids shows that the athletes take their sport as a mere business where one must do anything and everything possible to reach the top. Why though? Why would one risk their own body and possible career with such a substance? Have they every heard of hard work pays off, and cheaters never prosper? I guess that doesn't apply in sports.

For Rich or For Poor

After reading and discussing the Andy Warhol article, Ive been pondering about the "American Dream" and how people perceives social hierarchy in America. I believe that rich people has an advantage over those who are rich based fully on their wealth. How So? Look at all the rich people that are able to buy out places for special occasions, have their own version of a headphones branded with their name, and have their own television show. These advantages are based solely on their wealth. Poor people has less advantages than the rich because they are unable to gain things that rich people have. Even though a car's purpose is to drive you from point A to point B, an expensive car would be a lot better than a cheap and low mileage car. In today's society, people are criticized and judged on what they have. In order to gain a job, one must wear casual and presentable clothing. Wearing any clothing mainly on the fact that its purpose is to keep you clothed and warm would lead you to a decline within seconds. I admire things that are expensive and luxurious. Thats just me. I plan on buying clothes that middle and lower class wouldn't be able to buy, and i understand theres people that would believe thats ridiculous, but saying that America should be based on that ideology is completely wrong. I would never be able to understand a society based on equality, and everyone having the same thing regardless of their social status. Im used to the rich having money, and the poor having none. It balances everything out. If Andy Warhol was alive today, he would've taken every single word back. So in the name of Warhol, America is completely different now.

Do See What I See?

After reading the article of advancement, I related its characteristics toward myself. According to the article, advancement is a cultural condition in which a genius creates a piece of art that isn't liked by most of society. This is not based on the fact that there’s something wrong with the creation, it’s that the other people aren't advanced. I admire the act of being advanced since it resembles my view on the way art is made. I believe that something that is viewed as beyond normal is incomprehensible to those that are single minded. This relates to my favorite artists that expand their musical talent onto other type of music. They go as far to want to be called an artist rather than to be categorized with the type of music they’re known for. Also, things that are creative but unexpected intrigue me. Being placed into a box where you’re limited to your talents and creativity kills your true character. To conclude everything, I would love to be considered as advanced mainly on the fact that I constantly feel as if people don’t understand my art, but a rule states that you can’t call yourself advanced…well are there any takers to change that?

The Simpsons

This first post is about the continuity of one of the longest running programming on prime time television, The Simpsons'. In my early years, I was a major Simpsons' fan. Every Sunday I would tune into the Fox channel to watch the newest episode & see what ridiculous antics the Simpsons' family is up to. It was up to the point where I watched their big movie on my 13th birthday, which my interest for the show was over. I believed that since the show was able to create a movie, which it would turn out to be the end for the show. I was wrong. After I watched the Simpsons' movie, which was in 2007, I haven't watched a single Simpsons' episode since. It was years later that I thought to myself, how is this show still going on? What are the writers and producers doing to keep this show on the air? These questions not only went for the Simpsons' but for every long running episodic television show. How are they keeping up with their success year after year? Creativity is what keeps me interested & that means to have something new or groundbreaking. The show added the high definition stature to keep in tact with the rest of regular programing but that hasn't done much for me. I was a fan of the old cartoonish type feel to the show. The Simpsons looks to have the same characters and concept of satire I've known them for, which pushes me away from the show. Thus, I won't really watch another Simpsons show until something new or different arises. Oh! A new episode of Family Guy is on tonight!
